Oh how I love spring. It’s so full of promise. It’s like stretching your legs after a long car ride. And with that feeling comes a love of some lighter, airier pieces like this Quick Crochet Cowl.

I say bring on the spring! Bring on the sunny mid-days but the still-crisp afternoons and bring on this lacey crochet cowl that will keep me cooler when it’s draped and keep me warmer when it’s either folded down or the draw-string is drawn.

I wanted this quick crochet cowl to reflect this spring promise. I wanted lightness and airiness with the mesh but a little bulk with a thicker yarn and I also wanted the ability to draw it closed on the colder days. Finally, I wanted a color that reminds me of the tulips soon to emerge in our yard and the palette of the flowers of spring.

Go ahead, embrace spring and make yourself a new lacey crochet cowl to go with it! This is one of the easiest patterns you’ll ever come across.

PATTERN & SIZING NOTES

– The chain 3 at the beginning of every row of this easy crochet cowl counts as a stitch and a chain space
– The draw-string and beads on this project are optional
– The beads should be affixed to the draw-string after the draw-string has been woven through
– A smaller hook could be used on this project to create a tighter mesh albeit a smaller cowl
– While most people chain 3 for a double crochet, I chain 2 and keep the chains fairly loose
– The yardage is approximate based on the gauge of the pattern

INSTRUCTIONS

QUICK CROCHET COWL:

CH 71, SL ST to first chain to form a loop
ROW 1: CH 3 then <SK ST and DC in next stitch> repeat <> for the row, ending with a SL ST in the 2nd chain of the chain 3 at the beginning of the row (71)
ROW 2 to 14: repeat row 1 (71)
YO SL ST to tie off, cut, weave in ends

DRAW-STRING:

– For the draw-string, create a loop with a long tail, chain 100 leaving long tails on other end as well
– Place your cowl with the starting chain as the bottom of the cowl
– Find your seam and place it in the back middle
– Count out 18 mesh holes on either side of your seam, these are the starting/ending holes for your drawstring
– Using your tapestry needle, start weaving your draw-string through from one side to the next, weaving it in and out of each subsequent mesh hole
– Place beads of your choice on the two ends of the draw-string tails, tie and secure and trim the tails

Voila! An airy and light quick crochet cowl you can wear in spring or in fall… in style.
