As we head in to spring I have been dreaming of al fresco dining so I designed this gorgeous “Dahlia” Round Crochet Placemat with these outdoor meals in mind!

I’ve previously designed rectangular placemats like the Springridge Placemat and the Brookside Placemat but this time I knew I wanted to create a round one. Some of you may know by now how much I love my Berry Stitch and I’ve used it again here to create the little faux bobble border around the outside of the mat.

Instead of using cotton this time, I used a chunky (5wt) acrylic yarn as I figured it would hold up well outside and be easily washable. You could, however, make this with cotton yarn if you double it up and use 2 strands.

This boho crochet placemat works up in 1/2 hr per placemat, uses only 1 skein of my chosen yarn per placemat and is really very easy. I have used the invisible join method in this pattern and give details on how to do so, but if you’re still an early beginner, you could just do a regular slip stitch join it just won’t be quite as neat and tidy. One of the things I love about this placemat is the invisible join as you can’t see any seams and it just looks like such a flowing and cohesive piece. Be still my heart 🙂

One of the best things about this project is that it doesn’t just have to be a placemat – you can use it as a modern doily or as a table centerpiece mat. The size of this is easily customizable to make it bigger or smaller by adding or subtracting rounds!

I hope you enjoy making this placemat for your summer dining experiences and if you’d like to check out some more homeware patterns, please take a look at my Belle Bobble Basket or my Springridge Placemat and the Brookside Placemat patterns!

PATTERN AND SIZING NOTES
– This round crochet placemat pattern is made in one piece in the round with joined rows.
– You must have knowledge of making circles with increases, joining rows with slip stitches, single crochet, double crochet and triple crochet.
– For this pattern, I do an invisible DC join in the round.  Instructions will be given more thoroughly for this within the pattern, but essentially the first ST in every round after you SL ST to join that last round, will be comprised of a ‘Mimic DC’ which is a  SC in to the ST and then a CH 1.  This mimic combination and makes the  join less visible.
– The way I’ve written this pattern, I’m writing the STAGERRING of the increases right in to the pattern so that the placemat appears more round and doesn’t have angles where the increases are.  This is why the increases appear in a different place in each round.
– The size of this is customizable, simply add or subtract rounds to your liking.
– This boho crochet placemat pattern can be used for other purposes as well, you can use it as a table centerpiece mat or a boho doily.
– The stitch count is given in parentheses ( ) at the end of each round.
