Hello crochet friends, welcome to the cold weather and an easy crochet ruana pattern I designed, the Rochefort Ruana!

beginner-friendly ruana

Since most of the leaves have fallen and the weather requires more and more layers of clothing, I wanted to create a simple, beginner-friendly ruana pattern that anyone can make for themselves, or as an easy and quick holiday gift (gulp, it’s coming up so fast!).

While this beginner-friendly ruana is elegant and tasteful and has a gorgeous, subtle texture, it is also an incredibly easy crochet ruana with just 2 alternating stitches.

Lately I have been loving the Loops & Threads yarn because they have a wide selection of colors and, this time, I chose a deep Burgundy which I think goes wonderfully with autumn and brings a little much-needed color to winter too.

There’s not much more I need to say about this piece, except that I hope you enjoy making it and I hope it’s simplicity surprises you with its beauty.

PATTERN AND SIZING NOTES
– For this easy crochet ruana, you must have knowledge of: working in the BB of the foundation chain, double crochet and working in the front loop and back loop of a stitch. – This beginner-friendly crochet ruana is made in two identical panels which are worked length-wise from front to back and seamed nearly half way up the back. – The stitch used for this easy crochet ruana pattern is and alternating DC in the front loops and back loops of the stitches.  This is the only stitch used for the pattern. – This simple crochet ruana is highly customizable – for every inch you want to add or subtract from the length, just add or subtract 2.75 ST (just remember to keep the foundation chain an odd number).  For every inch you want to add or subtract from the width, just add or subtract 1.625 rows.  For example, if you would like to shorten the ruana to 30” in length from the shoulder, you would first realize that we are taking 12” in length each off the front and back, thus 24” x 2.75 is 66 ST we need to remove from the foundation chain, making your foundation chain 175 instead. – The stitch count is given in parentheses ( ) at the end of each row. – All terms are in US / North American terms.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Rochefort – Easy Crochet Ruana Pattern:

Row 2: DCBL then DCFL and alternate these 2 ST’s all the way across the row (ending on a DCBL), CH 3 & turn (241)

Rows 2 to 30: Repeat Row 2 (241)

Rochefort Easy Crochet Ruana – ASSEMBLY:

– Place both panels wrong side facing up and side by side with the FOUNDATION CHAINS on the outside of each panel (so they would face your hands).
