“CASSIDY” SUMMER TOP

I would like to introduce you to the Cassidy round yoke crochet top that is perfect for any summer outing! This is one of my new favorites and I’m so excited I get to share it with you.

Round yokes can be so beautiful and this one is no exception. With the textured faux bobbles of the berry stitch surrounded on either side by some fine lines, it makes a gorgeous border on both the yoke and the bottom of the crochet tank top. The main body of the top is kept as a simple stitch to draw the visual interest to the borders.

The best parts about this round yoke crochet top is that it can be made in just hours AND it is made in one continuous piece, so there are no side seams! Working in a spiral round truly does make this project such a fast make.

The yarn used here is Bernat Softee Baby in the color Fern, but any category 3 yarn will work. This particular yarn is acrylic but the crochet tank top would also look lovely in a cotton or cotton blend.

I do love the color, style and ease of this top and look forward to bringing you some more summer makes in the coming weeks.

PATTERN AND SIZING NOTES

– This crochet tank top is made in one continuous piece in the round.  It is made top down starting with the round yoke.   The round yoke is worked in joined rounds, the body is worked in a continuous spiral and the bottom border is worked in joined rounds.
– The texture in the yoke border and the bottom border is created by alternating SC and TC.  The SC after each TC must be tighter than normal to help the TC pop out for the faux-style bobble.

Cassidy Summer Top – Round Yoke portion

Round 1: Starting in the same ST you SL ST’d in to, SC in the BB all the way around, SL ST in to the SL that started the round and CH 1 (63, 75, 97, 99, 111, 123, 135, 147, 159)

Round 2: Starting in the 1st ST in the round, SCBLO all the way around, SL ST in to the SL ST that started the round and CH 1 (63, 75, 97, 99, 111, 123, 135, 147, 159)

Rounds 3 & 4: repeat Round 2

Round 5: Working in both loops of the ST’s in this round, alternate between SC and TC all the way around, ending on a SC in the last ST, SL ST in to the SL ST that started the round and CH 1 (63, 75, 97, 99, 111, 123, 135, 147, 159)

Round 6: Working in both loop sof the ST’s in this round, SC all the way around, SL ST in to the SL ST that started the round and CH 1 (63, 75, 97, 99, 111, 123, 135, 147, 159)

Cassidy Summer Top – Body Portion

– Find the seam of the yoke on this round yoke crochet top and mark the first ST.  Count out the following number of ST’s on either side of that marked ST and mark them: 8 (9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16).

– Count out the following ST’s from either side of those marked ST’s and mark these too: 16 (20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40, 44, 48)

**You should have the following number of ST’s marked on the back (which includes that centre marked ST at the seam): 17 (19, 21, 23, 25, 27, 29, 31, 33)

**You should have the following number of ST’s marked on the front (which should be 1 less ST than the back): 16 (20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40, 44, 48)

**You should have the following number of ST’s for the arm holes on each side: 15 (19, 23, 27, 31, 35, 39, 43, 47)

– Turn your yoke upside down with the seam facing up toward you and tie on at the marked ST on the right.

** Reminder we are now working in a continuous spiral, there are no joined rounds until the bottom border of the top.  If you wish, you can mark the first ST in each spiral round but it isn’t necessary as that ST moves and I tend to line my work up more with the centre seam of the yoke than to actually count the ST’s

Round 1: In the same ST you tied on in, HDC to the left hand marked ST, then CH 20 (24, 28, 32, 36, 40, 44, 48, 52) and continue HDC from the next marked ST to the last marked ST where you will then again CH 20 (24, 28, 32, 36, 40, 44, 48, 52) for the 2nd arm hole.  The first ST in your next round will be in the 1st HDC you started with since we are working in a spiral (ST counts for the round are: 73, 85, 97, 109, 121, 133, 145, 157, 169)

Round 2: Starting in the first HDC from the previous round, HDC in each ST around and where you are at the CH’s for the arm holes, HDC in to the BB of each CH (73, 85, 97, 109, 121, 133, 145, 157, 169)

Rounds 3 to 40 (Or what ever length suits your tastes): Continue working HDC in to each ST in the round in a continuous spiral (73, 85, 97, 109, 121, 133, 145, 157, 169)

Cassidy Summer Top – Bottom Border

– If you’ve market the 1st ST in each round, you’ll see the ST has migrated to the right, so continue as many HDC as necessary to line up centrally with the seam from the back of your round yoke and SL ST in to the ST that lines up to it and CH 1 as we will now begin working again in joined rounds instead of a spiral.

Round 1: Starting in the same ST you SL ST’d in to, SC in all the way around, SL ST in to the SL that started the round and CH 1 (73, 85, 97, 109, 121, 133, 145, 157, 169)

Round 2: Starting in the 1st ST in the round, SCBLO all the way around, SL ST in to the SL ST that started the round and CH 1 (73, 85, 97, 109, 121, 133, 145, 157, 169)

Rounds 3 & 4: repeat Round 2

Round 5: Working in both loops of the ST’s in this round, alternate between SC and TC all the way around, ending on a SC in the last ST, SL ST in to the SL ST that started the round and CH 1 (73, 85, 97, 109, 121, 133, 145, 157, 169)

Round 6: Working in both loop s of the ST’s in this round, SC all the way around, SL ST in to the SL ST that started the round and CH 1 (73, 85, 97, 109, 121, 133, 145, 157, 169)

Rounds 7, 8, 9: repeat Round 2 and in the last ST, YO and tie off. (73, 85, 97, 109, 121, 133, 145, 157, 169)

Finally, do a round of SL ST around each arm hole to give it a more finished, polished look.

Weave in all ends and VOILA, you have a super easy round yoke crochet top that will elevate your warm weather wardrobe!
