The holidays are fast approaching and I wanted to make a quick and easy top that was a crochet bardot sweater. The timeless elegance of the bardot-style, which is an off-the-shoulder top style which highlights the neck line area, was the look I was going for and I absolutely love how this crochet bardot sweater turned out!
The ribbed fold-over neck takes some time because it’s so thick, the rest of the sweater works up incredibly fast. There is a lot of ease in this sweater and the mesh stretches both ways, up and sideways, making it a garment that moves and adjusts to your body. If the measurements I give in pattern don’t seem to correspond to your size, don’t worry, there is lots of wiggle room due to the stretch of this stitch.
I’ve used Bernat Softee Baby quite a few times lately and I do like working with it not only for it’s ease on the hook, but also because it’s a Cat 3 which makes it a nicer weight to make garments that aren’t too bulky or weighty. The color I used for this sweater is Flannel.
The stitch used is the modified Moss Stitch (aka Granite Stitch or Linen Stitch) but using a double crochet instead of a single crochet. It creates almost a herringbone look mesh and I used it recently as well in my Adelyn Batwing Sweater.
I hope you enjoy making this to wear to your holiday parties, I’ve already given it a test run to a gathering and I love it! Happy crocheting everyone!

PATTERN AND SIZING NOTES |
– For this crochet bardot sweater, you must have knowledge of: working in the BB of the foundation chain, slip stitch, skipping stitches, double crochet, double crochet Moss Stitch and working ribbing on to a piece. – This crochet off the shoulder top is made as one piece for the body (creating a neck hole as you go) and the sleeves are worked on to the sides. At the end, the ribbed cuffs, bottom hem and neck ribbing is worked directly on to the piece. – The double crochet Moss Stitch is just like the regular Moss Stitch (also knows as Linen Stitch or Granite Stitch) except, instead of using single crochet, you use double crochet. So you skip a stitch and chain 1, then place a DC in the next ST, then skip a stitch and chain 1 and place a DC in the next ST and continue this across the row. – The pattern for this crochet bardot sweater is given for XS with all respective counts given in parentheses ( ) after the XS count. – Turning CH’s do NOT count as stitches. – To easily count your ST’s in a row to make sure you’re on track, just skip count by 2’s at each DC (not including the turning chain) – The stitch count is given in parentheses ( ) at the end of each row. |

Holly Crochet Bardot Sweater – Bardot Fold-over Ribbed Neck:
Here’s where things get fun! We are going to increase the stitch count around the neck line by an extra 1/3 so that the ribbed fold-over neck line portion has a little extra room, since it’s a smaller stitch.
– Find the centre back ST and tie on, CH 1, place 3 x SC in each ‘hole’ all the way around the neck line and when you reach where you started, SL ST in to the CH 1.
– For all sizes, CH 34 + 1 to turn and SCBLO all the way around the neck line until you reach where you started.
Holly Crochet Bardot Sweater – Assembly:
– Using a 1 foot piece of yarn and a tapestry needle seam the under side of the neck ribbing together – or you could SL ST or SC it together instead of seaming with a tapestry needle
– Turn the entire piece inside out, lining up the sleeve cuffs all the way down to the bottom hem
– Using a 3.5 foot piece of yarn, tie on at the end of the sleeve cuff and seam all down the sleeve and down the side of the sweater to the bottom of the hem. Repeat on both sides of the sweater.
– Weave in all ends
VOILA, a timeless and elegant crochet bardot sweater you can wear for any occasion!
