Well all this lock down and quarantine business has another silver lining that I’ve found and it’s led to the creation of this heirloom-quality crochet baby blanket. Somewhere in the midst of all the craziness that has been the last year on planet earth, people have found lots of time to love, cherish each other and make some babies! Has anyone else noticed the increased requests for baby blanket and patterns?!

I heeded the call, and created this minimalist style crochet baby blanket, “Your Heart In Mine”. The lines are clean, the blanket uncluttered and the heart(s) motif is front and center. If you like modern design, this is the baby blanket you want to make as your next baby shower gift.

I used my go-to WW 4wt yarn, Caron One Pound. It’s so easy to use this when making blankets because it’s more economical than buying smaller skeins, and there’s no fussing with skein after skein. This takes about 1.5 of the Caron One Pound skein.

crochet baby blanket with bobble heart

While I made this crochet baby blanket in a gender-neutral grey, it would also look so darling in the traditional gender colors, or in a pastel green or yellow. You could even get adventurous and do the bobbles in a different color (white?!). You can also customize the border – I had thought about doing a bobble pom pom border but, truth be told, I ran out of yarn, so I kept the edging simple with just a round of slip stitch. But there are at least 3 or 4 borders I can think of that would look amazing on this piece while still upholding the minimalist aesthetic of it.

I know you’ll love making this blanket as much as I did and any expecting mom who receives it will cherish it forever.

PATTERN & SIZING NOTES:

– This darling crochet baby blanket is made in 1 piece, from the bottom up, using single crochets and a bobble stitch to create the heart pattern, then the entire blanket is slip stitched around the edge to create a clean border

– The bobble is created in the traditional way – if you are unfamiliar with how to create the bobble stitch, please refer to the following video tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9QzJHLPkSM

– Remember that the bobbles are created while working on the wrong side of the piece.

– The easiest way to follow this pattern is to follow the chart enclosed, but I will also write out the written instructions below.

– Turning chains DO count as a stitch, which means you will always skip the first stitch in each row and go directly in to the 2nd stitch, and then at the end of each row, you will place your stitch in the turning chain from the row below.  The reason for this is that it gives a nice, clean edge.

– Stitch count for each round will be indicated in parentheses ( ) at the end of the row

CUSTOMIZATION OPTIONS: – You can add any border of your choice by doing the edging round in my pattern as a round of single crochet instead of slip stitches, then you can build upon that round of single crochet to create any kind of border you like on this blanket.
