Today’s new blog post and free pattern are brought to you by friendship in the form of the Andrea Chunky Crochet Throw Blanket!

Where would we all be without friendship? My friend Andrea has been such a presence in my life lately as I’ve been going through some difficult times and attempting to come out the other side of it a new and improved version of myself. She’s an amazing cheerleader, an insightful conversationalist, a wise and knowledgeable soul in my life and I am eternally grateful for all the support she has given me.

I wanted to make her a small token of my appreciation and that’s where the inspiration for this blanket transpired. The texture adds a hint of femininity while the chunky yarn adds a lot of practicality to keep her cozy and warm on cooler days.

I absolutely love this stitch lately, the Sedge Stitch. It gives such visual interest and looks far more complicated than it is, but it’s actually a very easy and quick stitch to work on. All that is required is knowledge of single crochet, half-double crochet and double crochet. That is why this chunky crochet throw blanket is such a beginner-friendly crochet project.

The yarn I chose (Loops & Threads “Charisma” in Jam) is such a soft, supple and squishy yarn and actually has beautiful drape, even in a blanket. It’s easy to work with an comes in a range of beautiful color options. You can use any other category 5 yarn you like, however, with an outcome just as gorgeous.

Whether you make this for yourself or, like me, you make it for a friend, I hope you enjoy making this pretty chunky crochet throw blanket!

PATTERN AND SIZING NOTES
– The Andrea Chunky Crochet Throw Blanket is worked using the Sedge Stitch, which means that you repeat a pattern of [SC,HDC,DC all in 1 ST, then you skip 2 ST] and repeat this across the row.
– With the exception of the first row (of SC), your last stitch in each row of Sedge Stitch will be placed in the CH 1 from the row below, so all CH 1’s in your Sedge Stitch row count as a ST.
– Stitch count for each round will be indicated in parentheses ( ) at the end of the row
INSTRUCTIONS

CH 112 + 1 to turn

Row 1: Starting in the 2nd CH from the hook, SC in to the BB of the foundation chain all across the row, CH 1 & turn (112)

Row 2 to 68: Remembering that your CH 1 from the previous row is now a ST, place an HDC and a DC in the first ST in the row then SK2ST and repeat the following for the remainder of the row [SC,HDC,DC all in 1 ST, then SK2ST] – the last ST in your row will be a SC in the CH 1 from the row below (112)

Row 69: SC in each ST across the row, in the last ST, YO pull through and tie off, then weave in all ends (112)
