If you’re looking for a great spring-time sweater, this Dakota Crochet Mesh Pullover is a great project to bring you in to the coming season. It’s thick enough to keep you warm, but has a lattice-style mesh that announces warmer weather is coming 🙂

After making my Beverley Cocoon Sweater, I couldn’t resist using this same stitch again to create a pullover pattern. the triple crochet cross-behind creates this wonderful off-set lattice mesh that I find so pleasing to the eye! I have a feeling this stitch will show up in quite a few projects over the next while.

I chose an ombre yarn, Loops & Threads Soft Classic in Taupe Ombre. While it’s easy to control the striping, I just let it do it’s thing. This sweater, using 4wt yarn, would look great in a solid color as well.

This is an easy crochet mesh sweater, making it a great beginner-friendly project. Using one stitch for the body and slip stitches as your finishing touches keeps this sweater nice and simple. It is also made in one piece from bottom front, through the neck hole and down the back, then the sleeves are worked right on to the side of the piece. The only seaming required is from the bottom hem up through to the sleeve cuff. Easy peasy!

I hope you enjoy making and wearing this Dakota Crochet Mesh Pullover as much as I do. If you’re looking for some other spring-time makes, check out the Adelyn Batwing Sweater, the Chinook Poncho or the Meadow Pullover.

PATTERN AND SIZING NOTES
– For this Dakota Crochet Mesh Pullover, you must have knowledge of: working in the BB of the foundation chain, skipping a stitch, slip stitch, single crochet, triple crochet, triple crochet cross-behind.
– This crochet mesh sweater is made as one piece from the bottom up, creating a neck hole and then continuing on to work the back from the top down, then the sleeves are worked directly off the sides.
– The Triple Crochet Cross Behind Stitch is created by skipping a stitch and doing a TC in the next stitch, then crossing BEHIND that stitch to do another TC in the stitch you skipped.  Cross behind, not in front.
– For the purposes of this pattern, I am calling every 2 TCCB ST’s a “Set”
– Turning CH’s do NOT count as stitches.
– The stitch count is given in parentheses ( ) at the end of each row.

DAKOTA CROCHET MESH PULLOVER – ASSEMBLY & FINISHING:

– Turn the crochet mesh pullover inside out so the wrong side faces out and it is folded at the shoulder/neck hold row.

– Using a 4’ piece of yarn, start at the bottom hem of each side and use a seaming stitch of your choice (I use whip stitch) to seam from the bottom hem, through the armpit and down the sleeve to the cuff.  Tie off.  Repeat on both sides.

– Turn the crochet mesh sweater right side out.

– Find the seam of each sleeve end and tie on and CH 1 then LOOSELY SL ST all the way around.  When you reach the last ST, remove your hook from your working loop, push it through the first SL ST of the round from back to front and pick your working loop back up, then pull it through to the inside, YO pull through and tie off.

– Find the seam of either side of the bottom hem, tie on and CH 1 then LOOSELY SL ST all the way around.  When you reach the last ST, remove your hook from your working loop, push it through the first SL ST of the round from back to front and pick your working loop back up, then pull it through to the inside, YO pull through and tie off.

– On the neck hole, find the middle back ST (approximate) tie on and CH 1 then LOOSELY SL ST all the way around.  When you reach the last ST, remove your hook from your working loop, push it through the first SL ST of the round from back to front and pick your working loop back up, then pull it through to the inside, YO pull through and tie off.

VOILA, a gorgeous, casual sweater for lounging at home or when you’re out at play!
