I’m so excited to share the first in a series of patterns I will make as the Maison Verte Series. This series will include this modern crochet dish towel, dish cloth and hot pads for the kitchen as well as a hand towel, a wash cloth and a bath mat for the bathroom. As you can see from the picture, the first pattern in my series is the crochet kitchen towel with subtle texture, crisp stripes and neutral colors.
The inspiration for this series comes from my interest in, and desire to live, a more green lifestyle. I live in Canada and have french heritage, so the name of my series means Green Home (but sounds fancier haha!). I have read a great deal about the zero waste movement and try to use natural materials as much as I’m able, especially for my homeware projects. All of the items in my Maison Verte Series will be made of cotton.
This functional and beautiful crochet dish towel just happens to satisfy my love of simple and minimalist designs. The neutral colors and the crisp stripes make me happy in a way I’m not sure I can describe. That’s just my taste, but if you like bright and bold, then this pattern would lend itself well to those choices as well!
This is a very simple kitchen towel to make. It uses a half double crochet alternating between the back loop and front loop, and it’s worked in rows with one border round of single crochet. Truly, it’s so simple that the color change is the hardest part of the project.
I hope you enjoy the first piece in the Maison Verte Series and I can’t wait to show you the remaining pieces!
To see more of my projects that use this same textured stitch, take a look at the Collina Throw Blanket and the Fairfield Cross-Over Poncho.
