In my desire to keep designing some chic and dreamy pieces, I came up with the idea for the Angelica wide sleeve crochet sweater and I’m so glad to be bringing it to your life now too!
I love me a little boho-inspired style, so when I came up with the idea for this sweater, I knew I wanted it to have nice wide sleeves (like angels wings almost) and an airy stitch combo to keep it light and feminine. And I think I’ve done that with this sweater. It’s pretty without too much frilliness and it can be worn as a casual day time chic sweater or as a stunning and sophisticated night time top (especially if you find a pretty sparkly or shiny yarn! OOOOOOhhhhh).
I used Bernat Softee Baby in Little Mouse (and I’ve used this yarn before on my Adelyn Sweater) and I do love working with this 3wt yarn. It’s soft, works on the hook nicely, doesn’t snag or untwist and it drapes nicely when finished and softens beautifully when washed.
For the stitch combo, I kept it simple combining a little bit of filet to give it lightness and a little bit of double crochet cross-behind to give it more texture. It’s an easy 5 stitch repeat which creates and overall pleasing set of varied stripes.
In terms of construction, this wide sleeve crochet sweater is made as just one piece, starting in the bottom front, working over the shoulders and down the back, then seamed at the bottom of the wide sleeves. It’s basically a giant rectangle with a neck hole on to which a waist band is added 🙂 The sleeve cuff and the waist band are both done simply in SBCLO in a continuous spiral to keep it seamless.
One of my favorite things about this piece is it’s versatility in terms of customization. You could forgo the sleeve cuffs, or you could make them thicker. You could make the whole piece wider to reach your wrists. You could continue past the pattern rounds of the waist band and make a whole dress out of it! There are so many possibilities!
I hope you enjoy the Angelica Wide Sleeve Crochet Sweater and if you make it, don’t forget to tag me on Instagram or Facebook @lulostitchco

PATTERN AND SIZING NOTES |
– For this “Angelica” wide sleeve crochet sweater, you must have knowledge of: chaining, working in the back bump of the starting chain, single crochet, single crochet in the back loop only, working in flat rows, working in the round in a continuous spiral, skipping stitches, double crochet, double crochet cross-behind and seaming. – This angel wing crochet sweater is made as one piece starting from the front bottom and working up to the neckline where you create a neck hole, then continuing in one piece top down on the back side ending at the back bottom. The bottom of the sleeves are then seamed and the ribbed cuff and waist hem are added on last as a continuous spiral from your starting point. – The DCCB stitch is as such: SK ST and DC in the next ST, then DC in BEHIND that DC to the stitch you skipped. – This project is customizable in that you can make the waist band shorter or longer (or even just continue your spiral rounds and make a dress out of it!) or you can skip the sleeve cuffs all together or make them thicker by just adding more rounds. – For the purposes of this pattern, the turning CH’s at the beginning of rows DOES count as a stitch. – The stitch count is given in parentheses ( ) at the end of each round. |
