Since we had a hail storm a few days ago – HAIL!!! – I decided it was time for another cozy and quick crochet hat and scarf set. Introducing the Hannah Set, with it’s adorbs nubby texture and it’s soft fluffiness.

You’ve likely gathered a few things about my designs, if you’ve been following me to any extent: I love the Berry Stitch and; I love seamless designs. This set is no different. The infinity scarf and hat are both done in a Berry Stitch (alternating SC and TC) and both the scarf and the body of the hat are done in a seamless, continuous spiral.

I choose the Loops & Threads Impeccable, which is a Cat 4 yarn, mainly because I liked the soft, feminine color and I do like how the Impeccable yarns work up. That being said, I also want to make another of the same set in a deep, rich jewel tone like a purple or a garnet and I think that would look amazing too.

This really is a quick crochet hat and scarf set, I believe it only took me about 4 hours to complete the set. This means it’s a great option for holiday gifts coming up! The fact it is Berry Stitch in unjoined rounds means it’s a mindless kind of project where you can binge-watch your fave new show while working it up. Oh, and the best part?! It only requires 2 skeins of the Loops & Threads Impeccable – that’s an economical gift!

I hope you enjoy making this cute set as much as I enjoyed designing it. In the meantime, check out some of my other winter-wear like the Azalea Hat & Scarf Set, the Moonstone Hat or the Harper Slouchy.

PATTERN AND SIZING NOTES
– For this quick crochet hat and scarf set crochet, you must have knowledge of: working in the BB of the foundation chain, slip stitch, single crochet, single crochet in the back loop (for hat ribbing), triple crochet, seaming and also working in the round in a continuous spiral (not joined rows)
– This textured crochet winter set is made (with the exception of the ribbed brim on the hat) in a continuous spiral so there are no seams.
– The stitch used for this infinity scarf and hat set is the Berry Stitch, which is alternating SC and TC so that the SC pulls down the height of the TC and makes it pop out like a little faux bobble.
– In order to make your TC pop out, you must pull the following SC quite tight.
– If you want to customize the length of the scarf or width of the hat, just remember to keep your foundation as an ODD number or the berry bobbles won’t offset the way they are designed in the pattern.
– The stitch count is given in parentheses ( ) at the end of each row. – All terms are in US / North American terms.

INSTRUCTIONS:

“Hannah” Quick Crochet Hat & Scarf Set – SCARF PORTION:

CH 153, SL ST in to the BB of the first CH in the Foundation Chain to join together (making sure not to twist your chain)

Round 1: Working in the same CH you SL ST in to, do a SC, then carrying on in the BB of each CH in the Foundation Chain, alternate between SC and TC all around – do not join (we work in a continuous spiral) **you should be ending the round on a SC in ST#153** (153)

Round 2: Without joining rounds, work a TC in to the first ST from the 1st row – mark the first ST in every round – then continue alternating between SC and TC all around (153)

Round 3 to 19: Continue marking the 1st ST in each round and alternating between SC and TC (your SC’s should always be going in a TC from the row below and your TC’s should always be going in a SC from the row below) (153)

Round 20: Once you reach Round 20, you will continue as usual, except you will add 6 additional ST’s and then SL ST in to the 7th ST so that your starting tail and your ending tail line up fairly well.  You can now YO, pull through and tie off then weave in your ends.

“Hannah” Quick Crochet Hat & Scarf Set – HAT PORTION:

We start by making the ribbing side –to-side, seam it together and then create the body of the hat working from the bottom up.

CH 6 + 1 to turn

Ribbing Row 1: Starting in the BB of the 1st CH, SCBLO x 5, SC (through both loops), CH 1  & turn (6)

Ribbing Row 2: Starting in the 1st ST, SCBLO x 5, SC (through both loops), CH 1 & turn (6)

Ribbing Rows 3 to 59: Repeat Ribbing Row 2 (6)

Once you have completed Ribbing Row 58, fold the 2 ends of the ribbing together with the wrong side facing out.  SL ST each end ST together to join it in to a circle.  CH 1 & turn the ribbing right side facing out to work the body of the hat.

Hat Round 1: in the 1st side row of the ribbing, work alternating [SC’s and TC’s] all the way around for 59 ST’s (you should end the round on a SC) – do not join (we work in a continuous spiral for the remainder of the hat – don’t forget to mark the first ST of each round) (59)

Hat Rounds 2 to 16: Without joining rounds, and continuing to mark the 1st ST in each round, continue working alternating SC’s and TC’s all around for 16 rounds (59)

Hat Round 17: Once you reach Hat Round 17, you will continue as usual, except you will add 6 additional ST’s and then SL ST in to the 7th ST so that your starting tail and your ending tail line up fairly well.  YO, pull through to secure and cut an 8” tail which you will use to cinch the top of the hat closed.

Using a tapestry needle, weave in and out of each ST in the top of the hat and pull tightly to cinch together and close the top of the hat.

Affix a pom pom of your choosing.  For instructions on making pom poms, you can easily find many tutorials online.

Weave in all ends and VOILA, a charming textured quick infinity scarf and hat set which keeps you warm and cozy AND adds a little extra style to your winter wear!
