CROCHET MASON JAR COZY (2 Sizes) – Free Pattern

Like a lot of people these days, I adore using Mason jars for all sort of things. I have one holding the the brushes by the sink I use to scrub out the kids sippy cups. Our toothbrushes on the bathroom counter. Occassionally, I use one as a vase. That’s why I love this crochet Mason Jar Cozy!

The Zero Waste movement is something I’m striving toward and so I try to minimize my waste – I also use them as cups and to shop in bulk at my local bulk store. Heck, I even store some of the kids pencil crayons and markers in them!

What better way to enhance their use by making them even prettier in these cute crochet mason jar cozies? They work up in under an hour and they make great last minute gifts too!

The stitch used, an Alternating Front Post Double Crochet, really gives the cozy a hygge feel. It’s thick enough you could even use it as a cozy for warm beverages and not burn your hands.

Everyone, and I mean everyone, has at least a few of these lying around that they can make use of in other ways so try out this cute and very fast working pattern!

PATTERN & SIZING NOTES

– These crochet mason jar cozies are made using the Alternating Front Post Double Crochet.  If you are not familiar, there are lots of instructional videos on YouTube to learn how to do this stitch
– The Alternating Front Post Double Crochet may also be referred to as the Alpine Stitch in the Round in a Spiral (unlike when doing the Alpine Stitch in rows instead of rounds, there is not a row of SC between the DC rows)
– The bottom of the crochet mason jar cozy is made in joined rounds and the body is made in a spiral
– This project is made using 2 strands of yarn held together for bulk
– For the bottom portion of the cozy, the CH 2 counts as a stitch
– Working an Alternating FPDC requires an odd number of stitches.  If you do not have 27 stitches for the 16oz jar and 37 for the 32oz jar, the stitch will not work in a spiral
